Non-Hermitian time evolution: From static to parametric instability

چکیده

Eigenmode coalescence imparts remarkable properties to non-hermitian time evolution, culminating in a purely spectral degeneracy known as an exceptional point (EP). Here, we revisit evolution at the EP and classify two-level Hamiltonians terms of M\"obius group. We then leverage that classification study dynamical encircling, by applying it periodically-modulated (Floquet) Hamiltonians. This reveals Floquet systems exhibit rich physics whose complexity is not captured EP-encircling rule. For example, EPs can occur without encircling vice-versa. Instead, show elaborate interplay between modulation instabilities better understood through lens parametric resonance.

Time evolution of non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems

We provide time-evolution operators, gauge transformations and a perturbative treatment for non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems, which are explicitly timedependent. We determine various new equivalence pairs for Hermitian and non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, which are therefore pseudo-Hermitian and in addition in some cases also invariant under PT-symmetry. In particular, for the harmonic oscillator p...

Non-Hermitian Quantum Systems and Time-Optimal Quantum Evolution

Recently, Bender et al. have considered the quantum brachistochrone problem for the non-Hermitian PT -symmetric quantum system and have shown that the optimal time evolution required to transform a given initial state |ψi〉 into a specific final state |ψf 〉 can be made arbitrarily small. Additionally, it has been shown that finding the shortest possible time requires only the solution of the two...

Parametric instability of optical non-Hermitian systems near the exceptional point

In contrast to Hermitian systems, the modes of non-Hermitian systems are generally nonorthogonal. As a result, the power of the system signal depends not only on the mode amplitudes but also on the phase shift between them. In this work, we show that it is possible to increase the mode amplitudes without increasing the power of the signal. Moreover, we demonstrate that when the system is at the...

Faster than Hermitian Time Evolution

For any pair of quantum states, an initial state |I〉 and a final quantum state |F 〉, in a Hilbert space, there are many Hamiltonians H under which |I〉 evolves into |F 〉. Let us impose the constraint that the difference between the largest and smallest eigenvalues of H, Emax and Emin, is held fixed. We can then determine the Hamiltonian H that satisfies this constraint and achieves the transform...

non-corrective approach to pronunciation

the aim of this study has been to find answers for the following questions: 1. what is the effect of immediate correction on students pronunciation errors? 2. what would be the effect of teaching the more rgular patterns of english pronunciation? 3. is there any significant difference between the two methods of dealing with pronuciation errore, i. e., correction and the teaching of the regular ...
